My last few posts have been pretty negative, so I thought I should probably post something that is somewhat positive...
I'm feeling a little better. I just got done updating my resume and writing a cover letter to send with to Weather Data, Inc. down in Wichita, KS. I sent my resume to them awhile ago (I think it was back in 1999), but never heard back. Hopefully I will this time. I don't know if they have any job openings, but it doesn't hurt to check. I just have to check on the info on the article I was co-author on in the WMA Journal (that's Weather Modification Association) and then it should be ready to email off (their website says to email your resume). I'd luv to get in there. It would probably be an entry level job, which is okay with me. I'd get some experience and probably some training. And it would be down in Kansas ... only about 3 hours from Melissa in Leavenworth (according to MS Streets & Trips). That would be a plus!! I guess I'll just have to wait to see if I hear back.
I did find an internship with the NWS in Grand Forks and in Williston, but I don't think I'm gonna apply for those. I want to get out of ND, and they applications are due by Friday (I just found out about them yesterday). Most of the application is done online, but it still takes time. And I know this sounds negative, but I've applied for NWS internships before and have been told I don't have enough experience (or I'm not ranked high enough).
THAT'S why I want to get out of WMI and into a job that will get me the experience that I so desperately need. And talk about ironic ... today I got my review in the mail from Bruce. I need to fill out the last section and send it back to him and then we can get together (in person or over the phone) to go over it. Hmmm ... should I be honest on it and say that I'm unhappy in my job. Naw ... I'll just toe the company line and try not to tip them off that I'm looking elsewhere for a new job. I will be truthful in some of the things that upset me, but I'm not sure how far I'll go. I need to keep this job 'til I can find a new one ... LOL.
I'm not sure where else to look for a job in meteorology. I've checked the AMS listings, the NWA listings, and the NOAA listings (that's how I found the NWS internships). I'm on a mailing list for met jobs, but I don't get emails very often from it. I guess I'm just gonna have to keep searching the 'net for what I can find. I can be pretty resourceful and
Google can be a pretty good tool ... =) I should probably get back in touch with Dr. Rinehart to see if he knows of anything. He basically got me my current job ... but he's retired now. But hey, it's worth a shot. I need some more networking in the field of meteorology. Maybe Tanya could know something. But I haven't been in touch with either of them in awhile. I'd feel ackward getting in touch with them now just looking for a job. And I don't want it to get back to WMI, so I'd have to be careful.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow nite ...
24Seven is playing at Bucks ... out in the tent. I haven't been to Bucks on a Wednesday nite in a long time. Hopefully there will be some good looking guys out there ... or at least Jon will be out there and will get up to play the drums on
Sweet Home Alabama. I just hope I don't fall into another one of my moods.
'Til next time...
